I admit, I *may* have a slight obsession with powdered highlighters, but my most favourite of all are from Chanel. When I first saw this latest Chanel illuminating powder on Omorphia's Instagram post (see her review and swatches on her skin tone here), I knew my wallet was in trouble. :)
About
"An illuminating powder with two contrasting rosy beige and copper shades that perfectly sculpt the face with a sheer, luminous finish. An exclusive creation embossed with a precious lace motif that Gabrielle Chanel particularly loved. This delicate powder offers an adjustable satiny result with its beveled brush applicator.A subtly iridescent and evanescent powder texture for an instant illuminating effect."

Packaging
Large black velvet pouch secured with an elastic band.

When you unfold the pouch, there's a little pocket on the front for the included natural, haired angled applicator brush. And, of course, a large pocket for the compact itself.
Above: product description label at the bottom of the compact, and below: the size of the compact relative to my slightly smaller than average hand.
There's also a mirror on the underside of the top compact lid for touch-ups.
My Musings
Undoubtedly, Chanel Dentelle Précieuse Illuminating Powder is unique in my collection. Its intriguing medium-toned, rose beige and copper nuances weaved through the beautiful, delicate lace motif made it rather tricky for me to photograph (I had to borrow my husband's camera which had a far superior lens than mine!). If you look closely at the detail of the powder, some areas are darker, and this reflects when swatched, I get a streak of the darker shade and the other, the lighter shade in a single swipe. (Obviously, it also depends on which part of the powder you dip into). This not only looks stunning in the compact giving varying depth and texture. The varying shades and depth of colour mimicking, perhaps, wear over time on a precious, vintage lacework. It glows!

Texture & Finish
The texture of the powder is typical for Chanel - i.e., exceptional. It's extremely smooth and so finely milled. The level of iridescence (no large glitter particles here!) and texture is similar to that of my all-time favourite powder highlighter Poudre Signée de Chanel (limited edition from 2012). The latter is a much paler, rose gold highlighter. The iridescence gives a subtle glow and when viewed up close, in certain lighting and angles, you can see the tiniest twinkle here and there.
Longevity & Wear
I find this highlighter to be extremely long lasting without any noticeable fading or changing colour on my combination skin, so I don't ever need to re-touch. The longest I've worn it for was 10 whole hours! :)
Swatches
For reference, I have medium to tanned, olive skin (~NC35) and the swatches were photographed indoors.
Above: photographed using a strobe, and below, without a strobe to depict its iridescence under low lighting.
Comparison Swatches
Swatched from left to right (photographed using a strobe) on my medium to tanned, olive ~NC35 skin tone:
- Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in 'Rose Gold'
- Estee Lauder Pure Color in 01 'Modern Mercury'
- Laura Mercier Face Illuminator in 'Spellbound'
- Chanel Dentelle Précieuse Illuminating Powder
Below (swatched in same order) - again shot without the strobe to depict iridescence under low lighting.
Application
I love using this on the mobile eye lids on its own, or to highlight the centre of the eye lids on top of other eye colours using my clean finger in a gentle dabbing motion. I also use this on the high points of my cheek bones, under the brow, on top of my nose and cupid's bow - all using my finger tip for precise placement, and slightly more intense effect. For a more subtle, all-over radiant finish, I like to use a soft, bit fluffy, powder brush and lightly dust it on larger areas of my face.
Verdict
Chanel have outdone themselves yet again with Chanel Dentelle Précieuse Illuminating Powder. Simply amazing, and a must-have for Chanel makeup lovers.

Thanks for stopping by! ^_^ xo

Omg, I just got someone I know to ship this over to Sydney for me from Paris as I thought this was exclusive to London and Paris. How much is it in Australia?!
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful....can't wait to receive it regardless! Don't know if I can bring myself to use it though....
Hi @bso ! Doh! Ah well, at least you will get it - it will be worth it. ^_^ Plus, you won't have had to pay the inflated Australia RRP. ;) It is AUD90.
DeleteYes, I understand about ruining the pretty design - I have a few that I haven't touched for the same reason. LOL. But, I can assure you it is even nicer when you use it on your face. :) My thought is that there's no doubt Chanel will bring out more equally gorgeous or even more beautiful items in future, so don't feel too bad for using it - unless you can afford to buy 2 (one for using and one for the occasional admiration of a collector's item). Hehe. ;-)
Thanks for looking my blog, and I hope you get it soon safely and enjoy it!! x
It was 58 euros and then on top of that shipping, so it is even more expensive than AU rrp. Oh well, I have no doubts of its quality! I look forward to receiving it but now, I want it now!
DeleteOh my, yeah that's a bit pricey! :( At least you will get it soon. I find that there are some Chanel makeup that are "exclusive" to London/Paris when it is first released, then it usually arrives elsewhere like Australia later on anyway. Like the collection made especially for Harrods a few years ago eventually made its way internationally. But these usually are only released in the Myer Sydney Chanel Makeup Studio and Chanel Boutiques. I find the only things we don't get here are those that are hand-made and only a limited number (e.g. 2000) are made and also many of the Asia -exclusive collections. Just my observation. ;)
DeleteWell, I hope you have finally received it and you love it! x
Ooooh soo lovely!
ReplyDeleteI have already reserved mine, can't wait.
Hi Sara! Yes it is soooo lovely indeed! I hope you enjoyed this sneak preview before you can enjoy yours in your very own hands! It'll be well worth the wait. x
DeleteWow!!! This is a very pretty one. I love the packaging and the shade. I like the coverage for its light and seem so natural. I will def gonna check on this.
ReplyDeleteYes it's very pretty indeed Alice! Do check it out and let me know what you think! :)
DeleteThis is absolutely divine!! Love the print, and love the shimmery powder without all the huge glittery chunks!! Thanks for your spot-on comparison swatches!
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda - glad you found the swatches accurate. ^_^ I share your same love of this gorgeous beauty! I hope you've been able to get yours, too and enjoy it as much as I do. :)
DeleteWish I could get my hands on it...though I'm about as pale as it gets and I'm sure the shade would be a tad too dark for me anyway.. (that lace detail tho..) Also, WHY AM I JUST DISCOVERING YOUR BLOG?! Amazing stuff here ;)
ReplyDeletewww.lilting-grace.blogspot.com
Aww shucks, thanks Miss Louise! That means a lot. ^_^ Glad you've found my blog and like it. Yes, this one is probably a tad dark if you're very pale. No doubt Chanel will release more highlighters just as pretty /prettier and is more suitable for lighter skin tones - similar to Poudre Signee. Did you get a chance to try/snatch that highlighter up from a past collection? I love it. :)
DeleteThanks again for your kind words about my blog! x
