YSL have a new Baby Doll range called Kiss & Blush Lips & Cheeks Soft Matte Colour. It's a two-in-one lip and cheek colour with a "radiant soft matte result". Here's what the brand have to say about it:
"Kiss your cheeks. Blush your lips. Play with color and mix and match your lips and cheeks. Yves Saint Laurent introduces the latest innovation in the edgy Baby Doll attitude. This 2 in 1 ultra blendable air whipped mousse beautifully highlights your lips and cheeks with a sensual soft matte finish. Available in 12 signature YSL shades." ~ YSL
Being a pink lips and cheeks fiend, I picked up the ultra bright fuchsia shade in (01) 'Fuchsia Désinvolte'.
Packaging
The packaging is an interesting one - it's like a hybrid between a lipstick and a nail polish bottle.
It has a gold screw cap/applicator handle with the 'YSL' imprinted logo on top, and the bottle itself is clear which allows you to see the exact shade of the product.
The lip/cheek applicator is a flat, angled, spongy applicator with a tapered tip for precise lip colour application.
Swatches
All swatches were applied on my medium, olive (~NC30) skin tone and photographed indoors using a strobe.
On My Lips...
The formula is like a liquid lipstick, but it's very much like an air whipped mousse as described. It feels very lightweight and velvety-smooth (not sticky/tacky). The finish is a luminous, velvet matte. The texture and finish is actually similar to the new Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipsticks (see colour comparison below, but review on this product to come soon).
For a just bitten or lip stain look, simply apply just a few dots on each lip and dab and blend with a clean finger. For full, intense coverage as photographed, I applied two layers of colour.
On My Cheek...
I've tried lots of lip and cheek products and rarely do they really work well for both cheeks and lips in equal measures. I'm happy to find that YSL Kiss & Blush works equally well for both. :) In fact, I find it incredible that it applies packed with so much pigment on the lips, but on the cheeks, it's not as scary to apply at all. It's almost as if it acts like a completely different product that's perfect for the cheeks. But, of course, it's not - it's the same, single product that has magic. ^_^ The texture of it on the cheeks reminds me a little like the Chanel cream blushes (reviewed here) in that it is velvety smooth - non-sticky/tacky/greasy. It blends with so much ease (either with a synthetic brush or clean finger) and it is easily buildable. I find I only need to build a couple of layers (3 small dots of product using the tip of the applicator on each cheek per layer) on my medium skin tone to give decent colour pay-off. A single layer should be fine for fair skins - just depends on how strong you want your cheek colour to be. So, you don't really have to be "extra" careful or worry about applying too much despite the bright shade and pigmentation. The product melds seamlessly with the skin resulting in a flawless, natural, matte flush of colour. It lasts for the most part of the day on my current normal to dry skin in this winter weather. It's easy enough to touch up for when I need to go out in the evening by topping up with one more layer.
Comparison Swatches
I've compared the shade to a few other lip products in my collection and I'd say it is most similar to Tom Ford's Lip Colour in 'Aphrodisiac' (19) (see review here) except YSL's is leans more pink and is a touch lighter and brighter.
Pictured above and below from left to right:
* Rimmel Apocalips Lip Lacquer in 'Apocaliptic' (303)
* Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick in 'Ping Pong' (06)
* YSL Baby Doll Kiss & Blush in 'Fuchsia Désinvolte' (1)
Scent
If you're sensitive to scents, you'll be pleased to know that there's no discernible scent or taste (should you lick your lips).
Overall
YSL Kiss & Blush is dual-purpose product that actually excels in both of its intended uses. It deserves to have its place in my 'on-the-go' makeup bag for every day and for travel when I need something quick and easy to use. 'Fuchsia Désinvolte' is bright, fun, modern and youthful - especially when worn with a fresh face or very little makeup elsewhere. A versatile shade that can be worn softly and casually or amped up for a full, bold colour. I absolutely adore both the product and the shade!
Hope this was helpful.
Thanks for visiting! ^_^ xo

Such a gorgeous shade of fuchsia- so up my alley! I've swatched these in-store and really liked the texture. Thanks for the comparison swatches! xo

My pleasure @Jen27 ! ^_^ x
DeleteIts def a very pretty color and a very useful one too. But I guess its perfect for lips than cheeks for me for I kinda have sensitive skin.
ReplyDeleteHi Judith, if you have sensitive skin - do check out the ingredients in store if you know what you are sensitive to before you buy or try on the skin, otherwise, if you are able to, do try a patch test on the skin and see how you go maybe?
DeleteThese are still really lovely on the lips however if you like a luminous matte finish - it's very nice! I guess it's up to you if you think it's worth just getting for the lips or not. YSL do have a new matte lipstick range now so maybe that's a better option. I haven't tried them yet though.
Good luck and thanks for visiting my blog. :) x
TF aphrodisiac = LOVE. Couldn't get into the YSL for lip and cheek, didn't like the look on the lip on me too harsh; it would have been strictly a blush.
ReplyDeleteHey Lisa. *high five* re TF aphrodisiac. ;) Though too bad YSL lip and cheek didn't work out for your lips. :( Thanks for sharing your experience. x
