BURBERRY COMPLETE EYE PALETTE IN 'PLUM PINK' (NO.06)

Here's a review of the last of the five of the palettes I purchased (here's a sneak peek of all them ;-)): 'Plum Pink' (No. 06). (Sorry it took some weeks! hehe...)

Packaging

Colours, Texture & Finish
From bottom left to top right:
  • Very pale, muted beige-pink with a slightly shimmery finish.
  • Warm, light to medium, plum-toned brown (sheen with subtle shimmers).  I compared it to
  • Warm, red-based purple (sheen with subtle shimmers).  I compared this to 'Burberry Sheer Eye Shadow in 'Midnight Plum', which is blue-based.  On hindsight, I should have compared it to Burberry Sheer Eye Shadow in 'Mulberry' (No.24) as they are both red-based plums! /:-\  'Mulberry' swatches can be seen HERE - it is deeper, has more shimmer (which is gold), and is more red-toned again compared with the shade in the palette.
  • Dark brown with the slightest hint of purple in it (satin to matte finish).
Like the rest of the Burberry Eye Shadows, these are sheer to buildable, silky smooth, finely milled powders that make application and blending a breeze.
Swatches
All swatches in this blog post were applied on olive, medium to tan (~NC30-35) skin tone. The swatches in the image below were photographed indoors under natural low lighting and using a
strobe.
Comparative Swatches
I compared each shade in the 'Plum Pink' Complete Eye Palette with a Burberry Sheer Eye Shadow that may look similar.  The comparative swatches below were photographed indoors under artificial lighting and using a strobe.
The lightest shade (top right of palette) definitely has more pink than 'Porcelain'.
Don't be fooled by the second from top-right eye shadow in the palette.  It's darker and more plum than brown/taupe when swatched (i.e., it's not true to pan colour)!  You can see in the swatches below that it's actually closer in shade to Burberry Sheer Eye Shadow (single) in 'Antique Rose' No.10'Rosewood' No.09 is predominantly a shimmery taupe, but its undertone is a rose shade in the same family as 'Antique Rose' and the second from top-right eye shadow in 'Plum Pink' Complete Eye Palette.  The latter, however has more sheen, a touch more brown and depth compared to 'Antique Rose' - but very similar in colour though if you didn't look closely. :)  ('Antique Rose' has a satin finish).  Also, the one in the palette is definitely more warm-toned compared to the other two shades.
The second from bottom shade of the palette is quite a different shade of purple to 'Midnight Plum'. It's a red-based, warm purple, whereas 'Midnight Plum' is a blue-based, cool purple.
I compared the darkest (bottom) shade in the palette to Burberry Sheer Eye Shadows in 'Dark Sable' (No.23) and 'Taupe Brown' (No.07).  When swatched heavily (see right set of swatches on image directly below), the three appear so similar that you can barely see the difference.  When swatched light-handedly (as you would apply a wash over the eye lids), the differences appear clearer.  However, because it's applied more sheer in this case, there is more of my warm skin tone coming through, so the shades appear warmer (similarly with cooler skin tones, the colours would appear cooler).

I decided to apply the shades on white paper to show the differences more clearly. (light swatches followed by heavier swatches - see photos below).  You can see that the darkest shade in the palette has a hint purple in it (definitely more obvious in person than in the photograph unfortunately).  'Dark Sable' appears the warmest brown out of the three.  'Taupe Brown' appears more grey in comparison to the other two.
Overall, the purple undertone of the darkest shade will be more enhanced when layered with the other three plum-toned shades in the palette, otherwise, you're not likely to see the real difference between that dark shade and the other two single eye shadows.

Scent
There is no noticeable scent.

RRP & Size
AU$85 for 5.4 g / 0.19 oz of product.  Surprisingly not as expensive as I thought they would be.  Compared to Chanel eye shadow quads which have a baked formulation here in Australia, at AU$90 for 4 g, the Burberry Complete Eye Palette is slightly better value for money.
Availability
New to the permanent range, the palettes are now available at Burberry Beauty counters at selected David Jones stores.

Overall Recommendation
Personally, I do like this palette, but I'm not completely in love with it purely because I don't find the shades unique.  However, the Burberry 'Plum Pink' Complete Eye Palette is a good, reliable, purple-toned palette to get if you don't have similar shades already.  It's high quality and I think worth the price point for those yearning for plums and purples.
Hope this was helpful.
