Swatches & Review of the Chanel Knightsbridge Lip Collection

This is a post on just the entire set of lip products from the Knightsbridge collection - 3 rouge allure lipsticks and 1 glossimer.  All limited edition and exclusive.  The other gorgeous item from the collection is the highlighting and blush powder, called Chanel Poudre Tissée in Brompton Road, which I did a post on.  This collection is inspired by the rich and colourful spirit of London using pop-inspired pinks.  It was initially released exclusively for Harrods to celebrate the new Chanel installation at the upmarket department store in Brompton, London.  It has since been released internationally - e.g., in the USA, it is currently available online only on the Chanel website, and in Australia, it is available in: (updated thanks to comment below from Yolanda!) Chanel's Fragrance & Beauty Queens Plaza boutique, Brisbane, The Star Pyrmont, Bondi Junction, Chadstone and Myer Makeup Studio Sydney City.

The Rouge Allure Lipstick Packaging
In case you're not familiar with this lipstick - it comes in the usual Chanel black lacquer squarish cover (essentially, the lid of the lipstick), and the product itself is housed in a gold tube - you can see the photo below, it is revealed with the Chanel double 'C's logo. It's very sleek looking and probably the most interesting thing about it is its opening and closing mechanism (press & de-press). You can release the gold tube from the black lid, by de-pressing the gold top with the double 'C' logo on it, and this pops up as shown in the photo below. You can then pull this gold container out to reveal the lipstick. To close, you just put the lipstick back in and press the gold tube all the way into the black lid until it clicks back in.
Texture
The Chanel Rouge Allure lipsticks are a 'luminous satin lip colour'. Very hydrating compared to the Chanel Rouge Coco lipsticks, and I find, generally are more pigmented and richer in colour.  The Glossimer does not have a 'gloopy' and sticky texture, rather it feels very smooth and nourishing on the lips.

Colours
  • Belgravia: this has subtle shimmers compared to the other two.  It is a vibrant rose.  The colour pays tribute to a region of London, rich with history and classic architecture.  Against my pigmented lips, it's not as vibrant, but would appear much brighter on paler lips and against fairer skin tones, and therefore, more flattering for lighter-skinned beauties.  This is the most wearable of the three and is a 'safer' option.  If you wish to see what this colour looks like against fair skin and pale lips - Cafe Makeup has a great photo.
  • Hyde Park: a vibrant coral-pink named for a landmark Royal Park in London.  From what the sales assistant told me over the phone, when I was trying to do a blind order, this is the most popular lip colour out of the collection.
  • Kensington: this is my favourite of the three! It is a bold and brilliant fuchsia, inspired by one of London’s most posh shopping districts.  Compared with Nars Pure Matt lipstick in 'Carthage' - apart from being matte rather than luminous, Carthage is much, much deeper in colour.  Kensington is brighter, 'Barbie' doll pink and a bit neon-like.
  • Chelsea (glossimer lip gloss): this is described on the Chanel website as a 'brilliant pink lipgloss' that 'delivers the ultimate pop of colour, along with subtle shimmer and a high-shine glow'.  This colour is named after a 'thriving artistic and cultural area of London'.  While it appears a neon pink in the tube and on the applicator, it actually applies clearly on the lips, which while more wearable in compared to a neon pink, a bit disappointing for what you pay. :-(

For reference, I have olive/tanned skin - NC/W30 (I can't recall which C/W sorry as this is based on me going to the Mac counter once, ages ago and trying out their foundation, which I didn't buy in the end!).

My Personal Recommendations
I highly recommend the Rouge Allure Lipsticks - especially the Kensington.  It's a colour I don't have and is likely to be very different from what's out there.   The colour pay-off is excellent and the creamy texture is lovely, nourishing and comfortable on the lips.  Perfect for spring/summer, or just brightening an otherwise gloomy day! It's quite wearable if you have less make-up everywhere else on your face so it doesn't compete with this vibrant colour.  As I may have mentioned, I am partial to pink hence this is my most favoured colour of the collection.  A very close second is Hyde Park.  If you love coral pinks then this is for you. I think it's very pretty!  I'm glad I got this as well.  Belgravia for me, despite being the most wearable out of the three, just lacked the wow factor, although I would recommend this for fairer skin tones and if you prefer something not as vibrant.  You may already have something similar to this though.  My least favourite is the Glossimer.  Not worth the money for a clear lip gloss I'm afraid despite how pretty it looks in the tube! You can get a similar clear gloss for much less at the drug store.

I would hurry and purchase ASAP if you are keen on any of the colours before they all sell-out.

Hope this helps!  Thanks for stopping by. xo

What do you think of this collection?

  5. Yes, you MUST!!! Love Hyde Park - it is pure summer prettiness. (And you're so lucky to have the Chanel Makeup Studio in your city! Do you go there often?) They're usually very nice on the phone to me (yes I stalk via phone too LOL).
