Hi guys! Hope you've had a pleasant week (or at least survived it) and looking forward to the weekend! *phew* ^_^
I thought I'd share my current favourite bright pink lipsticks, from high-end brands to budget drug-store/pharmacy brand. If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, then I'm sure you will have seen me wear some of these! I've put those Instagram photos and put them together down below (taken with my phone camera, so the quality isn't that great - sorry!).
Tom Ford Lip Color Shine in 'Ravenous'
Perfectly described as a 'Cerise Pink'. I have a soft spot for the Tom Ford Lipsticks and I must admit I was a little cynical that these would excite me as much. My favourite lip shine type of formula have been Chanel's Rouge Coco Shine (particularly their newly released colours with extra pigment), and also Burberry's Lip Mists. Luckily I was very pleasantly surprised! I love everything about it Tom Ford's Lip Color Shines, especially the brighter, more pigmented shades like 'Ravenous' (I feel like you get more bang for your buck if the pigment is there, too). It's not as lightweight as Chanel's or Burberry's, but it's still feels lighter than your average lipstick and also doesn't have as much slip or movement. It's extremely nourishing and juicy on the lips. I have another in an everyday colour called 'Quiver' (light blue-based pink) - Sabrina from The Beauty Look Book wears it here. The RAEviewer has swatches of all the colours in the range. If you can afford it, I'd say this is worth checking out. It's luxurious indeed.
RRP and size: US$48 / £36.00 for 0.12 oz / 3.4 g
Guerlain Rouge Automatique in 'Shalimar'
A beautiful, bright medium pink (that can read warm, neutral or cool depending on your natural lip pigment) with barely noticeable shimmers. The latter gives a pretty sheen on the lips. My lips are cool-toned and therefore, it appears more of a cool-toned hot pink on me (you can see the difference in tone from the photo of the swatch on my warm-toned arm to the photo of it my lips - see last two photos down below).
Subtle shimmers |
I really like the slide mechanism of the Guerlain Rouge Automatique. I don't smoke, but it reminds me of a cigarette lighter. Hehe. It's all-in-one and you only need to use one hand to open, close and apply, so it's convenient and also fairly secure. There's no chance of caps coming off in your handbag or losing caps. Below is a sort of frame by frame shot of how it works (starting from upper left corner downwards on the left then from upper right corner and downwards).
From the juicy, nourishing yet lightweight feel to its vibrant, easy-to-build-colour and the cool, nifty packaging - what's not to love? *sigh*
Price and size: AU$55 / US$35 for 3.4 g / 0.12 oz
YSL Rouge Volupte Shine in 'Fuchsia in Rage'
A gorgeous, vibrant fuchsia. It will look amazing on many skin tones. I have medium, olive skin and this does wonders particularly in brightening my complexion and making me smile when I wear it. ^_^ This is my first ever YSL Rouge Volupte Shine - influenced by how gorgeous it looked on the talented British makeup artist Lisa Eldridge (as seen here and here). :) I really love the strong pigmentation and moisturising feel of this range that I picked up another, called 'Violet Incognito' (No.3). I saw the gorgeous Joey Chong wear this and I just had to get it! It's (on-trend) vampy, but still has a touch of brightness making it more wearable. I'm also a little addicted to its scent, which reminds me of honeydew. :)
RRP and size: AU$55 / US$34 for 4.2 g / 0.15 oz
Nars Satin Lip Pencil in 'Yu'
I've reviewed this and a couple of other shades HERE. This shocking pink delivers a huge punch of colour in just one swipe. The Lip Pencil form makes it easy to apply and is lightweight and convenient enough to stick in your pocket. It glides on the lips like a breeze. If you're looking for a statement lip colour, this is it. It will definitely have heads turning. ;)
RRP and size: AU$39 / US$25 for 2 g / 0.07 oz
Maybelline Color Sensational Vivid Lipstick in 'Hot Plum'
A vivid(!), magenta pink with a satin finish. Beautifully opaque in a single swipe and feels pretty light and creamy on the lips. It doesn't dry out my lips like other drug store/pharmacy brands such as the Revlon Lip Butter, which feels moisturising on the lips at first due to its texture, but then dries out my lips as it wears. It's a great value for little money if you're after something that leans a little more purple and excellent colour pay-off. I don't own that many, but this is definitely my top budget lipstick and shade I've come across so far. (Well, the only other one also happens to be Maybelline as well - their Baby Lips range, which I own several of and am slightly addicted to! The latter have no or only a tint of colour in them though.)
RRP and size: AU$16.95 / US$7.49 for 4.2 g / 0.15 oz.

On My Lips...
For reference, I have medium, olive NC30 skin tone and the these were the only ones shot with my phone camera as mentioned.
L - R: Maybelline 'Hot Plum', Nars 'Yu', Guerlain 'Shalimar', YSL 'Fuchsia in Rage' and Tom Ford 'Ravenous'. |
Tom Ford's 'Ravenous' is the warmest of the lot, and probably the juiciest. :) Guerlain's 'Shalimar' is, too. Nars 'Yu' and Maybelline's 'Hot Plum' were the most opaque of the lot. YSL's 'Fuchsia in Rage' and Maybelline's 'Hot Plum' share the same slight purplish undertone, but the latter is slightly more pink in comparison. Nars' 'Yu' is quite deep and leans more rose compared to the others. Maybelline's 'Hot Plum' has the least amount of sheen/shine out of the lot and like Nars' 'Yu' has a satin finish. Tom Ford's 'Ravenous' and Guerlain's 'Shalimar' both have shimmers in them.
I hope this was interesting / useful.
Til next time...thanks for visiting. ^_^ xo
What's your current favourite bright pink lipstick? I'd love to read about it in a comment below! :)
I am loving Yu as well. Currently it is the brightest pink lipstick I own.
ReplyDeleteHi Jacqueline! Nice pick! It's amazingly bright isn't it, but so flattering. Glad you've been loving it as much as I have. Thanks for sharing. ^_^ x
