LISA ELDRIDGE | THE ULTIMATE TRUE VELVET COLLECTION

If you're a big makeup fanatic like I am, there's no doubt you are a fan of Lisa Eldridge.  She's a British professional makeup artist, creative director and author (see her book here).  She's also one of the first renowned professional MUA to create online makeup tutorials for her website and on YouTube.  I have been a long time fan of hers and watch her videos constantly for all things beauty and inspiration!  If you're not subscribed to her, do so now! >_<  You'll be hooked.  She's extremely talented, knowledgeable, creative, has great taste and also seems like a really nice person to boot!

She recently launched her own jewellery collection from which I'm hoping one day I will be able to own one or two(!) of her exquisite rings that many know her for.  And, now her very own makeup line is finally out - starting with a set of lipsticks.  Yes!

I love that it's just a tiny collection and not a complete range.  Otherwise, I think I would go bankrupt.  Haha!  (Not funny.)  But, I think that's the product of a true perfectionist we see in the makeup artist.  Starting small and doing it perfectly, rather than a whole makeup range that could possibly have hits and misses or so-so products.  But, I'm sure Lisa Eldridge couldn't live with something less than perfect!

In this collection, she's released three red lipsticks in her brand new range called Plush Matte Velvet Lip Colour:

Velvet Ribbon - a vibrant, universal neutral/blue red.
"This shade is a classic face brightening red that suits everyone (and its a great tooth whitener)."
Velvet Jazz - a muted, earthy, brick red inspired by the 1930’s red lipsticks in Lisa's vintage collection.
"This shade is something of a chameleon and ranges from an intense brown/red to a soft, brick red, depending on skin tone and method of application. Its an incredibly glamorous shade, equally beautiful as a fully saturated 'wow' lip, as it is as a naturally flushed stain."
Velvet Morning - a hot and fiery, bright orange/red.
"This shade is an explosion of vitality that looks graphic and modern for parties".
(See my "Overall" section down the bottom of this post for my personal picks of shades and thoughts on them!)

There's also her Plush Velvet Makeup Pouch in black.
Each are sold separately (lipsticks at £26 each and pouch for £18), but also sold as a set with a saving of £21!!  The set includes all three lipstick shades in full sizes plus the makeup pouch).  I purchased the entire set, of course. ;-)  And, as a bonus, received free priority shipping as the total cost made it eligible (on orders over £40.00).  So, definitely worth purchasing the entire set in my opinion.  Even if you don't want to wear all shades, you can always gift one or two to someone special this coming Christmas season. ;-)

Packaging
Each lipstick is packaged in a very simple, but ultra sleek gold cylindrical case featuring her very cute logo (and 'L' with a lip and a beauty spot that she has!) engraved on the top of the cap.  It has a fairly substantial weight to it and a chic and sturdy, secure magnetic closure that gives a very satisfying click.  The black velvet makeup pouch is very cute and also features a matching gold zip closure, the same cute logo embroidered in matching gold in the front and on the round gold zip handle.  This pouch is lush enough for me to wear as a cute little clutch on a night out actually!  Love it!  Now...the unique part of this lipstick range is that each bullet has been designed with a beautiful true velvet effect on the surface of the bullet so it looks exactly like velvet fabric!  Wowzas.  It's a bit of a challenge to photograph, so it's best to see it with your own eyes to believe the likeness to real velvet!  However, I hope my photos below give you some idea! >_<

Formula, Pigmentation, Feel & Finish
The website claims are these are "saturated and highly pigmented lipsticks.  The formulation is a creamy, hydrating matte with a slight sheen - its not a flat matte.  The colour is long wearing and non drying to the lips."  After trying these on for the last few days, I can whole-heartedly agree to all! :-D  Except for the long-wearing part, because I only wore these for a few hours at a time, but they all lasted well.  I can imagine these would last much, much longer if I didn't take it off, because of how rich the pigmentation is, and when I do try to take it off with a wipe, it takes several goes because of the stain that remains!  It feels comfortable for a matte formula, and not heavy like cream lipsticks usually do.  If I compare it to my favourite velvet lipstick formula - the Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet, the Lisa Eldridge ones are probably just a tad more substantial in terms of texture and feel on the lips (so a teeny bit thicker) and doesn't feel or go on as smooth, but having said that, the Lisa Eldridge ones are also much more intensely rich in colour and saturation so it goes on in a single swipe with full opacity and extreme saturation, and hence, probably also last much longer in terms of wear on the lips.  With all that in mind, I think that overall, these are up there in terms of my favourite lipsticks of all time! ^_^

All red shades "look fantastic when applied as a precise ‘full on’ lip but also works well as a dabbed on subtle rosy stain".  Agree!  But, I personally love wearing it as full coverage, coz the colours are just too pretty and truly need to be shown off!!  You can watch Lisa wear these both ways on her video here.

How It Looks On Me
Here's how each shade look on their own on my naturally pigmented and blue-toned lips against my medium, olive skin tone (~NC30).  I did not use any lip liner although it's advisable to if you need to adjust the shape of your lips (I should, but I don't have the time >_< haha).  Note, these were photographed using my iPhone camera indoors under natural lighting.  I posted these on my Instagram Instastories recently and I often do so please follow me there if you want to see more of my adventures in makeup and beauty with mini-reviews and makeup looks!  It's much easier and less time consuming than doing full blog post reviews these days being a busy mum of two!

Overall
Get one, two, or the whole set!  Blink and they will be gone forever.  If I had to choose just one (haha!  Never in reality. ;-) ),  I would personally pick Velvet Jazz.  It's a colour I love - the depth and richness are glorious.  It's such a timeless colour and the subtlest warm gold glow it imparts is just incredible and adds a certain je ne sais quoi.  My next pick would be Velvet Morning.  I haven't come across an amazing, uber bright orange red like this in probably forever.  I used to wear Nars Heat a lot back in the day and couldn't quite find another like it since, but Velvet Morning surpasses that by a mile.  It instantly brightens and enlivens my face and makes my lips so much bigger than they are.  It's a great one for summer, too!
